German Classes

German classes for absolute beginners are offered by Beutenberg Campus e.V. The costs are subsidized by the MPI-CE if you participate in at least 80% of the course units.

  • An A1.1 course starts on April 13, 2021. You can register and find further information here.
  • An A1.3 course starts on April 12, 2021. You can register and find further information here.

More advanced courses are offered at the MPI-CE by Dr. Nelia Danova (ÜAG Jena). If you want to move on from an A1 Beutenberg course, please take advantage of the A1-2 transition course..

New courses will start on Feb 3rd, 2021 and end on April 1st, 2021.

Courses A2.2 and A2.1 (L9) consist of 17 teaching units (60 minute classes), course A2.1 (L5) consists of 25,5 teaching units (9m minute classes). At the moment, there is no A1-A2 transition course.

The institute will subsidize the course fee for participants of the MPI-CE and IMPRS students who either pass the course exams or have registered participation on at least 80% of the teaching units. To register, please download the relevant application form here (60 min)  and here (90 min).

The course times will be as follows:

  • A2.2: Monday/Wednesday, 12.15 - 13.15
  • A2.1: Mondays/Wednesday (starting at lesson 9), 13.30 - 14.30
  • A2.1: Tuesday/Thursday (starting at lesson 5), 13:00 - 14:30

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, all courses are currently taking place in an online format. To join, please contact Dr. Nelia Danova (ndanova@ice.mpg.de).

After each term, you can complete a test of the course contents. The certificate will indicate the level that you are at. Your German teacher can help you if you intend to pursue any of the official certificates below.

Zertifikat Deutsch (Abschluss der Grundstufe B1, relevant für Bewerbungen, Einbürgerung etc.); Prüfungsinstitution: Thüringer Hochschulverband / Telc.

DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für Hochschulzugang, Niveaustufe C1-Oberstufe); Prüfungsinstitution: FSU Jena, Institut für Auslandsgermanistik/DaF.
